Atelier by Matt Jackson: Reviews & Ratings
Atelier by Matt Jackson is such a wonderful restaurant and feels like a hidden gem. The food, the drinks, the ambiance and the service are 5 star and is a reason I continue to return. If you want beautiful food, come here!
Unpretentious high-end restaurant with great food. Well presented, excellent flavors, and solid wine list. Seats about 30 people. If you want to treat yourself and a friend, come here. I had the halibut and the brie appetizer, and a very nice rose.
Food for two plus drinks, and tip: $120 Positive: Easy to find location with lots of free parking around. Interior is decorated in a nice blue that exhibits a bit of fine dining, at least a nice place for dates (think Il terrazo but 1/4 of the size). We met the owner chef and his service was impeccable. We receive two free glasses of champagne for our anniversary. Easy to talk to and still have that excitment of being a new owner chef restaurant. Food: It touches the fine dining line, but its not really. Expect small quantiy. It is one of the few places that offers poach salmon and beef wellington. All cocktail selection was delicious. Cons: Very small location especially for dinner. Get busy and loud like Pagliacci Restaurant. Dinner service is a bit of hit and miss, and honestly sometimes he is just overwhelmed. Place is not really set up for kids ( due to small interior). Food for thought: New restuarant that offers unique dishes that is hard to find and to cook. Owner Chef seems to be fine tuning how best to run this restaurant, so i would be patient. If ordering steak, be sure to emphasize how you want it cook, if not it will come as medium. Quantity is small, therefore the focus is quality over quantity. Prices are resonable for what it is offered, and he offers unique hard to cook dishes that is worth trying at least once in your life time. Best time to come is during the day (less busy and you get to chat with the chef). Great place for dates.
This was our third visit to this restaurant and although the first two visits were excellent, the most recent visit far exceeded our expectations. The cocktails, service and most importantly, the food were all perfection. The oxtail was one of the best dishes I have had and reminded me of Brasserie L’ecole at its peak. Simple ingredients executed masterfully plated beautifully. Well done Chef! The service is attentive without being rushed or intrusive. This place is a gem and should be a staple for anyone who enjoys fine dining but doesn’t want to make the journey to downtown Victoria.
Excellent anniversary dinner. With thanks from our children who gave us a gift card.
Where art meets food. L’Atelier is a little treasure tucked away in the heart of Sidney. Sophisticated and intimate, it’s the perfect spot for a special occasion. The menu is refined and thoughtfully crafted—a true delight for the connoisseur. A beautiful experience where every detail feels intentional. Highly recommend!
Special event. Handled with aplomb and professionalism (the staff, maybe not so much the guests). Notice. This venue was closed to their loyal customers to accomodate this celebration. From hors d'oeuvres to dessert, service was impeccable and food exceptional. Table setting and interior evoked elegance. This is a hidden treasure for those seeking a memory invoking dining experience. The exterior is unassuming and discrete but encompass an unheralded, innovative, and talented master chef and attentive, intuitive staff. Make reservations, but do so quickly. I suspect that at some point acquiring a table may require much patience.
